As always with a local derby, this game didn’t disappoint. With both teams defending so well the score looked to be a low one. Minch crossed the line in the first half making it 7- 0 at half time. The second half looked to be a close one. Cainy knew they had to get on the score board to stay in the game. And with some fast hands out in the backs, Ed Cantwell crossed over for Cainy's first try. 7-7 and still anyone’s game, Minch were next to score to make it 12-7.
Both teams were defending well when Minch received a penalty within kicking distance and took the option for 3 points. Which just showed how tight the game was with Minch wanting the security of being ahead by two scores. This option was to prove vital at the full time whistle. At 15-7, Cainy had to put it all in and this paid off with some strength from centre Ollie Burrows powering over to make it 15-12. This was to be the final score. Cainy walking off the pitch feeling like they left points out there, heads up and ready to put the hard work in training.
With two clubs having a history of fiery games, it was great to see that rugby was top of both clubs priority list. Several spectators from both sides were overheard saying what a great game of rugby it was to watch.
Once again a very tough decision to choose Man of the Match with everybody playing so well. But we're sure everyone would agree that a well deserved MOTM goes to Sam Hanahoe, going from strength to strength in his new position as flyhalf.
