Before the match kicked off, we held a minute's silence in memory of Shaun Dowdeswell who sadly passed away earlier this year. He played for both Cainscross RFC and Coney Hill RFC. Both teams retired the number 6 shirt for this game in his honour. Thank you to his family members who came down to watch the game.
Thanks to Coney Hill for making the short journey over to Victory Park, with the sun shining it looked to be a great day for rugby but that quickly changed in time for kick off with the rain starting and hanging around all game. With the wet conditions it was looking to be a front rows nightmare of scrum, scrum and scrum down again.
Special mention to Mike Ashford who had a great game in the front row. After a bit of time away he has returned to show he still has it. Welcome back Mike.
It would be fair to say neither team really found any continuity in the attacking game and perhaps the game was going to be won by the stronger defending team.
With a close game, not reflected in the score, it finished 28-7 to Cainscross. With tries from Sam Hanahoe, Iman Hussain, Jack Racheal and Dean Rice. All tries were converted by Sam Hanahoe. Man of the Match went to Olly Wood who is cementing his place in the back row with strong runs and even stronger tackles.
