Minchinhampton RFC

7 - 17

(HT 0-0)

Cainscross RFC

After the frustrations of the previous weeks game being postponed, Cainy took the short trip to Minch for a proper local Derby.

The game got off to a wet start and it was a battle to see which team could overcome the elements first. With a few knock ons from both teams, Cainscross seemed to hit their stride first. While the set piece game was solid they failed to find any real traction so they switched it up to kick taps. The temper went up a few notches causing the Minch team to concede penalties.

With no let up and some thundering runs from new man Ewan, the ever present Pollard capitalised with a strong try wide out. This dominance continued with Nash following the same path for another well taken try. Cainy then suffered a big blow when their skipper Mark suffered a head injury which meant he had to leave the field. Some rejigging of positions had to be made just before half time but Cainy went in 10-0 ahead.

The second half saw a controlled Cainy retake the pitch and the line-out became a dominant weapon with King pretty much disrupting all the Minch ball. The pack again built great momentum resulting in quick ball for the backs. A cracking dummy run from Jack sucked in the majority of the Minch backs and a clever pass from Carter sent Raath into the corner for another well taken try. Jack was able to strike an impressive conversion.

Unfortunately with some decisions starting to go against Cainy they found themselves pinned on their try line and it was Minch's turn for a quick tap resulting to the line being broken just under the posts. Cainy held their heads high and went back to work to finish off a great performance away from home to finish 17-7 winners.

Man of the match performance went to Louis who impressed at hooker and prop. Special mention to a few debuts for Ali, Kai and Ewan and thanks to Grant, Sam, Tom and Aaron for putting the shirt on.

Next game is at home against Drybrook this Saturday. Training is 7-8 every Tuesday so see you there.
