A good way to start the season with a win in our first game.

Although it was a friendly, I’m sure both teams would agree there was nothing friendly about it once the whistle blew! Both sides were keen to get the first score, and it was looking inevitable that Cainscross would cross the line first.
Camped in Westbury’s 22 for much of the first half, Cainscross eventually found the breakthrough, with Keaton Powell crossing for the only try of the half, converted by Kieren Stranger to make it 7-0 at half time.
With the downhill advantage in the second half, it looked like Cainscross might push on, with Doni Da Costa scoring an early unconverted try to make it 12-0.
But Westbury responded well, holding out against constant Cainscross pressure and managing the game well to prevent us from building any real momentum. Despite plenty of attacking pressure, Cainscross couldn’t add to the score and the game finished 12-0.
A good, competitive game for both sides, with Cainscross’s defence also standing strong throughout. Keeping a clean sheet and restricting Westbury to no points is a great reflection of the defensive effort across the team.
Thanks to everyone who came down to support the lads.
Good luck to Westbury on Severn for the season ahead.
